Competitive bids opened on April 18, 2024, for Project 24-16, Sidewalk Improvements. Four contractors picked up proposal documents and one bid was received. The low-compliant bid was submitted by Strada Construction Company in an amount of $292,851. The low bid is under the engineer's estimate and budgeted amount. Staff recommends awarding the contract at the available budget amount of $504,262 to utilize CDBG Funds that must be expended. The work includes sidewalk replacement generally along north-south streets in the south half of the Village. End

Background
This project includes the replacement of approximately 33,232 square feet of sidewalks (about 1,250 sidewalk squares), as well as additional quantities for curbs, driveway apron replacement, and other items associated with this concrete work. Sidewalk replacement will take place at numerous locations throughout the Village but is predominately for sidewalk replacements along the east-west streets in the south half of the Village this year. Construction is scheduled for completion by early July.
Sidewalk locations are prioritized based on a sidewalk survey conducted by the Engineering Division staff. Staff surveys approximately one-sixth of the Village each year with work focused on north-south streets in the south half of the Village this year. Sidewalks that have elevation differences of 1/2" or more between adjacent slabs are scheduled for replacement to remove barriers for persons with disabilities or the elderly and improve accessibility.
