Overview
This project includes the replacement of water meters and the upgrade of water meters with new register heads. This project is an effort to replace older water meters that have outlived their service life. In addition, this project will allow the water metering system to move towards Advanced Metering Infrastructure which is an effort towards a Smart City initiative. The low responsible bidder was Calumet City Plumbing & Heating Co., Inc.

Fiscal Impact
Funds for this project are in the Fiscal Year 2021 Water & Sewer Fund budget account numbers 5040-43730-777-570707 ($850,000.00) and 5040-43750-781-570707 ($850,000.00). Funds are also proposed in the Fiscal Year 2022 budget in the same account numbers for an additional $2,300,00.00.
Background
The Village of Oak Park has 12,500 water meters in its system and continually services water meters as necessary to bill for water usage. This project includes the replacement of over 3,000 water meters and the upgrade of approximately 5,500 water meters with new register heads. Water meters have an expected life of 15-20 years of service. Meters older than that tend to become inaccurate and under record actual water consumption.
At the end of this contract, all water meters two-inch and smaller will have 90-day data logging ability and be compatible with the proposed Fixed-Base Radio Reading System.
