Background
On November 1, 2021, the Village Board adopted an ordinance regulating short-term rentals in the Village which is codified as Article 40 ("Short-Term Rentals") of Chapter 8 ("Business Licensing") of the Oak Park Village Code. The ordinance was adopted in the interest of public health, safety, and the welfare of the residents of the Village as there was a need to regulate short-term rentals to alleviate any potential adverse impact on the community.

To date, the Village has received 68 short-term rental applications of which 40 have been licensed, 17 are pending re-inspection, 8 are pending inspection, and 3 have withdrawn their application. There are 124 properties that were previously identified as potential short-term rental locations of which 75 have removed their rental listings and 49 are identified as not being available but listed.

During the application process, staff received questions regarding what defines a short-term rental period. This ordinance provides clarification and definition.
