Regular Village Board meetings are typically held at 7:00 p.m., the first three Tuesdays of each month in Council Chambers of Village Hall (room 201), 123 Madison St. When a Regular Meeting falls on a holiday, the meeting typically is held the following night. The Village Board also meets in special sessions from time to time. However, dates and times of Special Meetings can vary and may change.

Article 48 (“Pawnbrokers”) of Chapter 8 (“Business Licensing”) of the Oak Park Village Code requires that the annual renewal of the business license for pawnbrokers be given at the direction of and approval of the Village President and Board of Trustees, upon authorization of the Police Chief.

Fiscal Impact

The annual license fee for a pawnbroker business is $2,000.

 

Background

Pursuant to Article 48, the Police Chief has been advised that the review and investigations of the applications for pawnbrokers licenses have been completed and authorizes issuances of licenses to the following three applicants: 1.) Oak Park Pawn Shop, LLC., d/b/a A-1 American Jewelers & Loan (6151 North Avenue); 2.) Cash America, Inc. of Illinois, d/b/a Cash America Pawn #2397 (6303 North Avenue); and 3.) Irving Park Jewelry & Coin, Inc., d/b/a Hollywood Pawners (6147 North Avenue).

 

A copy of the Police Chiefs annual Pawn Shop Report Summary is attached. No enforcement action has been taken by the Police Department against any of the listed businesses thus far in 2022.

The Village Board could delay approval pending additional information requested.

The pawnbroker licenses are considered annually. The last approval by the Village Board was December 6, 2021.
