Recommendation

Recommendation

Adopt the Resolution in order for the Public Health Department to continue to function at the current level of service.

Background

This position is required to perform work required of a certified public health department as it relates to communicable diseases including HIV, STI, and Mpox. This position will also serve as a back-up to the immunization nurse at clinics to provide safe and effective care. Patrice Streurer is currently contracted with the Village through December 31, 2023 as a full-time contractor and has been contracted with the Village of Oak Park since October 2020.

Fiscal Impact

The services provided under this agreement are budgeted in the recommended FY 2024 Budget in account # 1001-44550-613-530667 (Public Health- Community Health/Nursing, External Support). Even though this position is fully funded by the General Fund, the Health Department continues to look for grant money to supplement this work.

DEI Impact

This will allow the Village to continue provide services such as STI, HIV, Mpox and other communicable disease surveillance and education. These services are offered to all residents of Oak Park, including those who are under- and uninsured, therefore addressing the disparity of access to healthcare.

Alternatives

The Village is a certified public health department and is required to perform this work related to communicable disease control.

Previous Board Action

The Board of Trustees previously approved a nursing services agreement for Patrice Steurer, R.N. in 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023.
