Overview

Overview

In April of 2017, the Village signed an agreement with Everest Snow Management, Inc. for the 2017 Parkway Tree Watering Program.  It is proposed to increase the original not to exceed amount for the contract from $50,000.00 to $60,000.00.  The 2017 growing season has been hot and dry.  This will allow the contractor to continue to water newly planted trees through the fall and water additional trees planted as part of the fall contract.

Fiscal Impact

The FY 2017 Capital Improvement Fund Budget, account No. 3095-43780-101-570957, Public Works, Tree Replacement, provides funds for the planting of new/replacement trees.  The original budget of $200,000.00 was amended on April17, 2017 to include an additional $45,396.00 in restitution associated with public tree removal for the development located at Lake St. and Euclid Ave.

As of this date, $38,724.84 of unencumbered funds remain available in this line item.

It has been proposed under another Board Agenda Item to utilize $25,000.00 of these funds for additional tree replacement.  It is proposed under this item to utilize $10,000.00 for additional tree watering.

Background

The 2017 budget provided $200,000.00 for Parkway Tree Planting.  $150,000.00 was allocated to the purchase and installation of trees through the Suburban Tree Consortium and $50,000.00 was allocated for tree watering for the 2017 growing season.

Since awarding these two contracts the budget has been amended to include an additional $45,396.00 that was collected in restitution associated with public tree removal for the private development at Lake St. and Euclid Ave.  The intended use of this revenue is parkway tree replacement and establishment.

Along with the purchase of additional trees and due to the hot and dry summer, funds must be allocated to water these trees to help them establish and protect the Village’s investment.  In order to spend these funds on maintenance, the not to exceed amount of $50,000.00 needs to be increased $10,000.00 to a new not to exceed amount of $60,000.00 for the agreement with Everest Snow Management to accommodate the additional cost.
