Recommendation

Adopt the Resolution.

Background

This position will support the work of our Public Health Department as it relates to preventing and protecting the public from communicable diseases including HIV, STI, and Mpoxs.  This position will also serve as a back-up to the immunization nurse at clinics to provide safe and effective care. Vaccinations provided will include MMWR, COVID, Flu, Mpox, and any other required by the IDPH.  Patrice Streurer is currently contracted with the Village through December 31, 2023 as a part time contractor. This resolution would provide the funds for her to become a full-time contractor through December 31,2023.

Fiscal Impact

The services provided under the Public Health Nursing Services Agreement are budgeted and divided between two different funding sources, the COVID-19 Vaccination Grant/Grant Contractuals (2143.44560.101.530656) (20%, $7,000) and General Revenue Fund 613(Community Health/Nursing) External Support (1001.44550.613.530667) (80%, $28,000). Utilizing the grant to fund a portion of this position will allow for cost savings from the general fund. The COVID-19 Vaccination grant will supplement 6 other Public Health Department positions, allowing for a general fund total cost savings of $59,000.

DEI Impact

This will allow the Village  to provide services such as STI, HIV, Mpox and other communicable disease surveillance and education. These services are offered to all residents of Oak Park including those who are under- and uninsured, therefore addressing the disparity of access to healthcare.
