Title
A Resolution Authorizing a Change Order to the Revcon Technology Group, Inc. Independent Contractor Agreement for the Installation of Electronic Available Occupancy Signs at the Holley Court, Avenue and Lake+Forest Parking Garages in an Amount not to Exceed $243,000
End
Overview
Overview
Historically, the parking public prefers to see that a parking space is available when determining where to park. For this reason, most parkers will first seek out on-street and surface parking lots. The proposed signage would assist parkers in understanding that there are available parking spaces in the Village parking garages, helping to alleviate the anxiety of not being able to see the parking space before making the decision to enter the parking garage to park.
Body
Staff Recommendation
Approve the Motion.
Fiscal Impact
This project would cost $243,000 to modify or install seven double-sided and four single-sided signs (see attached examples). These signs would be paid for from the Parking Fund. If approved staff will bring a budget amendment back to the Village Board for approval.
Background
Adding electric available occupancy signs to the existing parking signage, parking patrons would have a better understanding of space availability and feel more comfortable entering the garages knowing that they will have a space waiting for them.
Because of space limitations as well as pending future changes to streetscape and wayfinding signage near the Downtown Parking Garages it is recommended:
- That existing signage be modified in six locations near Holley Court Parking Garage (see attached)
- Two new (double-sided) signs be located near Lake+Forest Garage. One at the Intersection of Lake Street and Forest Avenue and a second one at the entrance of the garage.
- Two new (double-sided) signs and one (single-sided) sign near Avenue Parking Garage. One at the intersection of Lake Street and Oak Park Avenue, one at the intersection of Oak Park Avenue and North Blvd and one at the entrance of the Avenue Garage.
In order for the system to function the signs have to have power twenty-four hours and each sign needs a line of sight network with each other so the counter can communicate with the equipment at the garages. While the number of locations could be reduced, the signs near the entrances to the garages would need to remain to maintain the connectivity.
Alternatives
1. Replace all of the existing sign faces at an additional cost of $36,000.
2. Decrease the number of signs in the first phase.
