Background
The Oak Park Department of Public Health is seeking a grant to enhance vaccination access for children in the community. The National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO) is offering funding to local health departments to improve the health of young children through partnerships with Early Care Education programs. The goal of this grant is to elevate childhood vaccination rates, sustain collaborative partnerships to reduce disease transmission, improve immunization access, and achieve overarching public health goals for children aged 0-5 years old.
The Oak Park Department of Public Health maintains a strong partnership with the Early Childhood Collaboration, dedicated to promoting the health and safety of children enrolled in local early childhood education programs. Our collaborative efforts aim to create a supportive environment for the well-being of young learners. With the potential grant, staff envisions an expansion of this partnership to incorporate comprehensive education on all childhood vaccines recommended or required by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP), and how to reduce disease transmission in the Oak Park community.
This extension of collaboration is pivotal in ensuring that every child enrolled in local ECE programs has access to life-saving vaccines. The campaigns funded by this grant will empower parents with the knowledge necessary to make informed decisions about their children's health. Through targeted education and community events, the program would aim to dispel misinformation, address concerns, and underscore the critical role vaccinations play in safeguarding the well-being of the community's youngest members.
Fiscal Impact
The $120,000 grant award will provide a savings to the general fund, as it will partially cover staff salaries for at least three general fund positions as well as all project costs associated with the fulfillment of the Department of Public Health’s Vaccines for Children Program.
DEI Impact
Program staff will ensure that health information is accessible, culturally sensitive, and actively addresses disparities. All materials and events provided as a result of this grant will be distributed in English and Spanish. Through these efforts, staff aims to reach families with the greatest need and ensure access to life saving vaccines in order to create a more equitable and inclusive environment for the health and well-being of all children in Oak Park.
