The purchase will complete the replacement program initiated four (4) years ago to provide all Village of Oak Park Fire Department Advanced Life Support (ALS) vehicles with identical Advanced Life Support Zoll X Series monitors. The purchase of these two (2) monitors will complete the cycle and allow the Village of Oak Park to move to a cycle of replacing this equipment at regular intervals and in a budget-conscious fashion.

Fiscal Impact
The Fire Department designated $72,000 in the 2020 Capital Equipment budget for this purpose.
Background
Cardiac monitors are an essential tool for paramedics. Cardiac monitors are used for many emergency treatment functions including cardiac rhythm interpretation, defibrillation, monitoring oxygen blood levels, and ensuring proper endotracheal intubation placement.
The Fire Department has been replacing cardiac monitors over the last four (4) years, phasing out the older “E-Series” with the new “X-Series” monitors. All of the Fire Department’s monitors are Zoll monitors which is a significant training, maintenance, and deployment benefit in having all the monitors identical. Using identical monitors throughout the department allows one crew (engine/truck) to initiate care and then turn over care to an ambulance crew without having to disconnect/discontinue patient monitoring to switch equipment during a call. It also assures consistency when department members are rotated between fire/ambulance assignments.
The Fire Department is looking to continue to wave the bid process because Zoll is the sole provider of these monitors. The Department conducted extensive research before initially switching to a Zoll product and concluded that this company was the best fit for our needs. We have also worked with local hospitals to assure that the appropriate replacement equipment (single patient use) items would be available for us when needed.
