Background

The (JAG) program is the primary provider of federal criminal justice funding to units of local government. The awards are based on a statutory formula. The funds may be used to purchase equipment, supplies, contractual support, training, technical assistance and information systems for criminal justice. Criminal justice is defined as “activities pertaining to crime prevention, prevention or reduction, or the enforcement of the criminal law. The formula granted the Village of Oak Park is $13,646 in JAG funds, and the program will be administered through the City of Chicago.

In previous years we have used the funding to enhance our operations with equipment and software.

Fiscal Impact

The grant amount is $13,646. If awarded, the grant would fund 100% of the costs associated with implementing the program, and requires no local match.

DEI Impact

The Police Department considers DEI in all aspects of its operations. If we receive these funds, the department will be able to enhance our operations that currently promotes fairness and equity for all individuals.

Alternatives

The Village could decline the grant opportunity.
