Regular Village Board meetings are typically held at 7:00 p.m., the first three Tuesdays of each month in Council Chambers of Village Hall (room 201), 123 Madison St. When a Regular Meeting falls on a holiday, the meeting typically is held the following night. The Village Board also meets in special sessions from time to time. However, dates and times of Special Meetings can vary and may change.

Overview

The Village currently pays for a share of maintenance and the electrical energy for the traffic signals on State highways within the interior of the Village on Ridgeland Avenue and Washington Boulevard according to terms of the Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA) for Maintenance of Traffic Signals.  The Village recently activated the new traffic signal on Washington Boulevard at Wisconsin Avenue.  The IGA is required to be amended to include the maintenance and electrical charges of this new signal on the State highway.  The Village will be responsible for 100% of the costs for maintenance and electrical at this intersection.

Fiscal Impact

Funds for the maintenance of traffic signals are included in the FY2018 Budget in the General Fund, Public Works - Street Lighting, Traffic Signals, Roadway Maintenance, account no. 1001-43720-752-560633.  

 

Funds for the electricity for traffic signals are included in the FY2018 Budget in the General Fund, Public Works - Street Lighting, Street Lights, Electricity, account no. 1001-43720-751-540692. 

 

The Village will be responsible for 100% of the costs for maintenance and electrical at this intersection per the original approval from IDOT to install the traffic signal at this location.

 

Background

The Village currently pays for electricity and maintains the traffic signals on State highways (Washington and Ridgeland) within the interior of the Village.  The State reimburses a share according to an IGA for traffic signal maintenance.  The Village agreed to pay for the maintenance and electricity when the Village requested approval to install a traffic signal at the intersection of Washington Boulevard at Wisconsin Avenue.   The Village recently activated the new traffic signal on Washington Boulevard at Wisconsin Avenue.  The IGA is required to be amended to include the maintenance and electrical charges of this new signal on the State highway.  The Village will be responsible for 100% of the costs for maintenance and electrical at this intersection.

There are no alternatives to this recommendation.

 

Previous Board Action

On November 20, 2017 the Village Board approved an Ordinance Establishing Traffic Control Signals at the Intersection of Washington Boulevard and Wisconsin Avenue.

 

On October 17, 2016 the Village Board approved a contract with H&H Electric Company to install traffic signals at the intersection of Washington Boulevard and Wisconsin Avenue.
