Background

The Village of Oak Park has nine (9) collective bargaining agreements for various Village positions. Each collective bargaining agreement has a unique expiration. The Village bargains for a successor agreement with each union as the agreements expire.

Fiscal Impact

Wages and benefits associated with collective bargaining agreements are covered by the Village’s annual budget. Wages will be retroactive to 1/1/23 for all current or retired employees covered by this agreement. The memorandum of understanding is retroactive to the date when the Village Board approved the two-year pilot Alternative Calls for Service program.

DEI Impact

This contract is for salary and benefits for Village employees. Village DEI initiatives for these employees are coordinated with the Village’s Office of DEI. New to this contract is a language access policy that compensates employees who are selected to speak multiple languages if the department identifies a need.

Alternatives

The Village Board could delay action and seek additional information.

Previous Board Action

This is a routine practice that requires both the Union and the Village Board to ratify a subsequent contract.  The Union voted to approve this contract and memorandum of understanding.
