Background
This is a motion by Trustee Enyia and seconded by Trustee Eder to direct the Community Relations Commission and DEI Office to work with individuals with expertise to host an education session on the history of zoning. Staff has been in contact with zoning history and policy experts to assemble an education session on the history of zoning, which is relevant with regard to ongoing zoning amendment discussions in the Village. Should this motion pass, staff anticipates hosting an education session in September or October as an extension of community engagement around zoning.
Timing Considerations
Hosting education sessions prior to potential adoption of zoning changes can help inform the community on zoning history and policy.
Financial Impact
If the Board elects to adopt this motion, funds will be allocated from the Village Board - External Support line item to hire experts for the zoning education session.
Operations Impact
DEI Staff will work with the CRC individual zoning and policy experts to prepare a session should this motion pass, and this motion is expected to take 10-20 staff hours.
DEI Impact
This action can help educate community members on zoning and its history in Oak Park as well as its impacts regarding equity.
