Background

An Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) system is a modern technology that enables the Village of Oak Park to remotely measure, collect, and analyze water usage data. Unlike traditional manual or automated meter reading (AMR) systems, AMI offers two-way communication between smart water meters and the Village’s utility systems. This allows for real-time or near-real-time data exchange, improving the accuracy and efficiency of water usage monitoring and billing.

AMI systems offer numerous benefits. They provide accurate billing by eliminating manual errors and estimations. They help detect leaks or tampering quickly, allowing for faster response and reduced water loss.

The Village is nearing completion of its meter reading gateway installations. This Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA) will enable placement at optimal sites, ensuring the most comprehensive coverage across the Village. District 97 facilities serve as ideal locations for antenna equipment installation, as they are often the tallest structures in their respective areas, maximizing signal reach and efficiency.
