Introduction

overview

In 2025, the Village contracted with Lyons Electric Company for the Garfield Traffic Signal Upgrade Project to modify the signal system to add left turn arrows for eastbound traffic on Garfield. Work is substantially complete and additional work primarily related to replaced corroded conduit that could not be reused caused the project to go over the awarded amount.  The additional work amounts to $20,515 and increases the contract from $116,000 to $136,515.

Recommended Action

Adopt the Resolution.

Prior Board Action

The Board has taken the following prior action:

On September 9, 2025, the Board Contract with Lyons Electric Company, Inc. for Project 25-14, Garfield Traffic Signal Upgrade, in an Amount Not to Exceed $116,000 (RES 25-239).

Background

This project included upgrading of the traffic signal at Oak Park Avenue and Garfield Street to include a left turn arrow from eastbound Garfield onto northbound Oak Park to allow for better flow of traffic and minimize the blockage of through traffic by a left turning vehicle. Work on the project is complete.

Additional work associated with replacing a traffic signal at the northwest corner of the intersection that was knocked down by a vehicle; replacing and repairing existing conduit which was damaged and could no longer be used to pull new wiring through; and additional restoration of impacted areas increased the construction costs above the awarded amount. The additional work increased the contract by $20,515 and increased the contract amount from $116,000 to $136,515.
