Recommended Action
Approve the ordinance.
Prior Board Action
The Board has taken the following prior action(s):
• On March 18, 2025, the Village Board approved updating the International Property Maintenance Code (“IPMC”) from the 2009 Edition to the 2024 Edition.
Background
Staff is requesting to amend the Village Code to give Development Services the authority to enforce the International Property Maintenance Code (“IPMC”) for commercial buildings. Historically, commercial buildings have been required to comply with the IPMC; however, when the code was amended in March, the authority for enforcement of the code was directed to Neighborhood Services. This amendment allows Development Services to enforce the same code for commercial properties.
Requiring buildings to comply with the IPMC is important because it protects public health, safety, and the long-term vitality of the community. The code establishes minimum standards for maintenance and upkeep of existing buildings and premises, helping to ensure that commercial properties remain safe, functional, and well maintained.
