Overview

Overview

The Engineering Division is responsible for reviewing and inspecting permit work in the public right of way and utilizes consultant services for most of these permit services. Staff requests a renewal of the current agreement with Christopher B. Burke Engineering to provide these services up to the end of 2024 in an amount not to exceed $135,000. The current Agreement allows for two additional one-year renewal periods. This would be the first of the two potential annual renewals.

Background

The Village has worked with Christopher B. Burke Engineering (CBBEL) for the last year to provide permit plan review and inspection services for private permit work that impacts the public right of way. The Engineering Division requests a renewal of the current agreement with CBBEL to continue providing these services for the remainder of 2024 per the terms of the existing agreement. The existing agreement allows for up to two additional one-year renewals.  This would be the first renewal.

CBBEL proposes to use the same staffing as currently provided. Provided staff includes more experienced staff, one of whom previously served as the Village Engineer for the Village of Oak Lawn, as well as less tenured staff. This combination of staffing allows for an efficient and cost-effective way of administering permit reviews and inspections.  CBBEL provides these services on a part-time basis, typically amounting to the equivalent of 3 days per week. CBBEL staff works both remotely and in the Public Works building to provide these services.

Fiscal Impact

The Fiscal Year 2024 Budget includes $175,000 for consultant support for permit and inspection services in the General Fund, Public Works - Engineering, External Support account no. 1001-43700-101-530667 for this work.
