Background

Firefighters use certified protective turnout gear. The manufacturer and industry standards recommend replacing that gear after five years to ensure its reliability and effectiveness. The department has a staggered fire-year schedule for replacements so it does not all come due for replacement in any given year. The Department also needs to outfit new firefighters with turnout gear as they are hired.
