This expenditure replaces older extrication tools requiring a gas generator and hydraulic hoses. The new equipment is battery-powered, saving time and ease of deployment. However, this equipment is proprietary and considered a sole source. Therefore, staff recommends waiving the Village's bid process to use Genesis as the sole provider.

Background
Firefighters use extrication tools to free occupants from vehicles after serious accidents. The standard for these tools required a gasoline-powered generator that powered hydraulic hoses from the generator to the devices. New technology has now developed tools that are battery-powered with the same effectiveness. The advantage of these new extrication tools is that they are instantly available with no set-up time to start generators and lay hose lines to the incident scene. They are also more maneuverable since they are attached to hoses.
The Fire Department began switching to this new technology three years ago with the delivery of the newest engine equipped with a set of battery extrication tools. This agenda item will allow the department to remove the last set of gas-powered tools from service and complete the switch to all-electric.

This project is funded in the FY23 GL# 3029.41300.714.570710
The amount budgeted is $36,000. The $2,000 overage will be presented as a Q1 budget reallocation amendment for board approval in March 2023.
