Background

Since the start of construction at the Oak Park Station Development in Downtown Oak Park, the number of convenient short-term parking spaces has decreased significantly.

In response the downtown businesses requested (via a petition), that the surface parking lots in the area be designated with a 3 hour parking limit.  In addition staff requested that several on-street meters be converted to 15 minute parking to help facilitate quick trips to those retailers.

Per Village Board direction on Monday, April 18th staff began changing signage in the parking lots to reflect the 3 hour limit and started an education process in the Downtown area with customers and businesses.  The fifteen minute meters are also being installed.

Alternatives

The Village Board can seek another meeting for further review.
