Additional Information

Native American Heritage Month stands as a recognition of the first peoples of this land. Nations whose histories stretch back thousands of years before colonization and whose stewardship continues to sustain the environment, art, and knowledge systems of North America. Indigenous peoples built complex societies rooted in balance with the land, governance based on consensus and community, and languages carrying deep ecological and spiritual insight. Despite centuries of displacement and erasure driven by colonization and federal policies, Native nations have continued to protect sacred sites, reclaim languages, preserve cultural traditions, and lead movements for sovereignty, justice and climate resilience. This month honors their enduring presence and contributions, not as relics of the past, but as living nations shaping the present and future.
