Background
Section 2-5-1 of the Village Code currently describes the Law Department as the "Law Division" and provides that the Village Manager may employ up to four in-house attorneys, including a General Counsel, an Assistant General Counsel, and two additional attorneys to prosecute Village Code violations. Over time, the Village has retitled the Law Division as the Law Department, has employed varying numbers of in-house attorneys, and has retained law firms to provide legal services. Additionally, the Village currently utilizes a retained Village Attorney. The Ordinance reflects these changes in the structure of the Law Department and conforms to the Village Code to reflect current practices.
