Background
AFG helps fund critically needed resources to equip and train emergency personnel, enhance efficiencies, and support community resilience.
Staff proposes submitting an application to cover 90% of the $39,930 total project cost ($35,937 federal share) for three (3) Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA), six (6) lightweight, high-pressure breathing air cylinders, and one (1) Rapid Intervention Team (RIT) pack. This equipment will be assigned to newly hired personnel staffing a new squad company. This project directly improves firefighter safety, operational readiness, and compliance with national standards.
Timing Considerations
SAFER applications are due June 22 at 5:00 pm Eastern Time. If the resolution is rejected, staff can withdraw the Village's application.
Financial Impact
The total proposed project cost is $39,930, with $35,937 being covered by FEMA. The remaining $3,993 will be covered from the Fire Department's budget.
Operations Impact
Staff spent approximately 20 hours preparing the application, along with support from Metro Strategies, the Village's consultant for grant applications. If awarded funding, the equipment will directly improve firefighter safety, operational readiness, and compliance with national standards.
