Additional Information

Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month was established by Congress in 1987 to promote understanding, inclusion, and equal opportunities for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This proclamation reaffirms the Village of Oak Park’s commitment to removing barriers and supporting full community participation, including access to education, housing, health care, and civic life. Recognizing this month also encourages residents, organizations, and institutions to promote advocacy, independence, and leadership among individuals with developmental disabilities and to help build a more inclusive community for all.
