Recommended Action
Approve the Resolution.
Prior Board Action
The Village Board approved a one-year alternate 12-hour work schedule for patrol officers in 2026 in lieu of the 8-hour work schedule contained in the current collective bargaining agreement. This agenda item continues the one-year 12-hour alternate work schedule in 2027.
Background
The Village will periodically agree to an alternate work schedule outside of the 8-hour work schedule contained in the current collective bargaining agreement to address various operational needs. Collective bargaining agreements are multi-year contracts. Using a temporary alternate work schedule allows the Village to address unforeseen or temporary issues such as staffing shortages in this case. The Union typically prefers an alternate schedule to the one contained in their current collective bargaining agreement.
Timing Considerations
The Department needs adequate time to plan for any alternate work schedule in the new year.
Financial Impact
The focus of the agreement is on the schedule. Generally, this schedule change does not have a financial impact that is different than the terms and conditions of the existing collective bargaining agreement.
Operations Impact
The 12-hour schedule allows the Department more flexibility to cover shifts due to staffing shortages.
DEI Impact
There is no DEI impact associated with this item.
