Background
The 2026 pavement preservation project includes crack filling, pavement patching, micro-surfacing, and pavement rejuvenators on various local streets throughout the Village. Microsurfacing is an ultra-thin overlay around 1/4" thick on roadways used to help seal the pavement, smooth out any rutting, and provide a new driving surface, which helps extend the life of the underlying pavement by around 5-7 years. Asphalt rejuvenator is a liquid emulsion sprayed on roads that aims to restore and preserve the durability and flexibility of asphalt.
This year's project also includes patching on Austin Boulevard which was originally scheduled for resurfacing using federal funds but has been delayed until 2027 due to CDOT and IDOT reviews and coordination.
The Village received two bids for the project with the low responsible bid from R.W. Dunteman Company in an amount of $588,000. R.W. Dunteman Company previously completed pavement preservation projects for the Village and has done a good job.
Timing Considerations
Adoption of the Resolution at this time will allow for the contractor to complete construction in the desired timeframe. Construction of the Pavement preservation Project is scheduled to be completed by the end of October of this year.
