Prior Board Action
The Village Board approved an Independent Contractor Agreement with Lakeshore Recycling Systems, LLC for Municipal Trash, Recycling, Food Scrap/Yard Waste, Household Hazardous Waste and Electronics Collection for a Five-Year Term on November 11,2021 (RES 21-279).
Background
Lakeshore Recycling Systems (LRS) is currently in the fourth year of a five-year residential waste collection contract set to expire in March 2027. While the agreement allows for two optional one-year renewals, the Village Board must determine its long-term strategic direction by early 2026. Staff expects to provide a formal resolution and recommendation in March 2026; this timeline ensures adequate lead time for a competitive procurement process or a seamless service transition should the Board elect to explore changing providers.
While LRS has formally indicated interest in a contract extension, this preliminary discussion provides an opportunity for the Board to evaluate current performance metrics, seek resident feedback, and identify potential service enhancements prior to the formal renewal or bidding phase.
