Overview
In November 2014, the Village Board approved the reinstallation of pedestrian push buttons on Lake Street in Downtown Oak Park with direction to engage the Disability Access Commission (DAC) for input on how to make them more accessible. The DAC recommended audible signals be part of the project. Staff is bringing back the item to the Village Board for consideration to move forward with installation of pedestrian signal equipment.

Fiscal Impact
Funds for the recommended alternative are available in the Capital Improvement Fund, Traffic Calming Improvements budget account no. 3095-43780-101-570955 and from a carryover of $19,500 from 2014 from the same account.

The total cost for the purchase of the recommended equipment is approximately $12,845.00. Since this work is within the Village Managers spending authority it is recommended a contract with the low bidder, Traffic Control Corporation, to supply the equipment will be executed.

Background
On November 3, 2014, the Village Board of Trustees approved Staff's recommendation to reinstall pedestrian push buttons and upgrade the pedestrian signals to pedestrian countdown timers on Lake Street in Downtown Oak Park contingent upon looking into components making this more accessible.
