Title

An Ordinance Authorizing the Sale of a Surplus Vehicle Owned by the Village of Oak Park

End

Overview

Overview

The Department of Public Works has a vehicle that can be sold as surplus.  The vehicle will be sold at auction and if not sold at auction, then it will be disposed of as scrap.

Body

Staff Recommendation

Approve the Ordinance.

Fiscal Impact

Funds received for vehicles will be placed in the fund from which they were purchased originally.

Background

In accordance with Village policy and State law (65 ILCS 5/11-76-4), the Village may, by Ordinance, authorize the disposition of designated personal property (as opposed to real property) in order to dispose of vehicles and materials no longer usable to the Village.  Items on the Attachment will be disposed of via internet auction.  The Village has had recent success using this method of disposal.  If the vehicles, materials and furniture are not sold by auction, they will be disposed of as scrap.

The vehicle that will be disposed of is a 2000 Chevrolet Impala with 168,000 miles.  It will be replaced with one of the vehicles that was scheduled to be replaced that is in better shape and lower mileage.  This will allow Fleet staff to keep the Village fleet in a position to use the best available vehicles.
