Overview
Overview
The Engineering Division opened bids on September 15, 2016 for the Watermain Valve Replacement Project. Four bids were received with the lowest responsible bid being submitted by Cerniglia Co. in an amount of $99,000.00.
Body
Staff Recommendation
Approve the Resolution.
Fiscal Impact
The costs for this project would be funded through the FY 2016 Capital Improvement Fund account no. 5040-43730-777-570705 which provides $100,000 for the watermain valve replacement program.
Background
In 2012 and 2013 the Water & Sewer Division of the Public Works Department contracted with M.E. Simpson Co., Inc. to exercise the approximately 1200 water vales in the drinking water distribution system. The valve exercising program identified a number of valves that were broken. Replacing the broken valves is a necessary improvement in order to maintain adequate fire flows and to ensure that water mains can be shut off in emergency situations or for scheduled maintenance. This watermain valve replacement project involves replacing five valves, the removal of a failing valve which is no longer needed, and patching the pavements.
