A Resolution Approving a Purchase Agreement with Zoll Medical Corporation for Two Cardiac Monitors for the Fire Department in an Amount not to Exceed $67,247.15 and Authorizing its Execution

Overview
Overview
Two of the seven cardiac monitors used by the Fire department have exceeded their eight-year service life and no longer will accept technology upgrades from the manufacturer. Replacing them with two new monitors will give our front-line ambulances the latest technology for diagnosing and treating patients.

Body
Staff Recommendation
Purchase two cardiac monitors.

Fiscal Impact
Each monitor with needed accessories cost $35,677.48. Two monitor total is $71,354.96, less trade-in for monitors being replaced of $6,456 makes the net cost $64,898.96. This was budgeted for in 2017 under Fire Department Capital Improvement projects.

Background
The Fire Department paramedics use cardiac monitors on our ambulances and in all our front-line fire apparatus. The monitors are used to interpret cardiac rhythms which in turn determines diagnosis and treatments for patients having cardiac issues. They also are used for defibrillation, taking blood pressures, monitoring blood oxygen levels, and ensuring proper endotracheal intubation placement. Currently two of our seven monitors have exceeded the eight-year life cycle set by industry standards to accept technology upgrades and minimize maintenance issues. The two monitors to be replaced, Zoll E Series, do not have 12-lead transmission capability which our area hospitals have upgraded to. Staff is recommending new Zoll X Series monitors. All our other monitors are Zolls so training and paramedic familiarity will maximize effective usage and outcomes.
