Fiscal Impact
The FY 2017 Capital Improvement, Building Improvement Fund Budget provides a total of $30,000.00 for the Fleet Shop Electrical and Lighting Upgrade Project in account no. 3012-43790-101-540673.
The proposed not to exceed amount of this contract is $30,539.51. The difference of $539.51 could be covered by unspent funds in the 2017 CIP Building Improvement Fund, Various Public Works Repairs budget.
Background
The Department of Public Works issued a Request for Proposals on February 1st, 2017 for the Fleet Shop Electrical and Lighting Upgrade Project. A pre-proposal meeting was held on February 9th. Five contractors attended the meeting. Two proposals were received. All Tech Energy, Inc., from Schaumburg, IL, a WBE, submitted the lowest responsive proposal.
To improve the efficiency, safety and daily operations of the Fleet Maintenance Division of the Department of Public Works, staff prepared a scope of work to add electrical outlets at various locations throughout the maintenance shop and to improve the lighting throughout the entire shop area by adding new light fixtures and retrofitting existing light fixtures with new energy-efficient LED fixtures. The new LED fixtures would reduce power consumption of maintenance shop activities by approximately two-thirds and would improve the overall lighting inside the shop creating a safer work environment for fleet mechanics. This work was not originally included in the Public Works Center Construction in 2006.
