Overview
The Engineering Division opened bids on August 31, 2017 for the Historic Sidewalk Repairs project. Six contractors received proposal documents and two bids were received. The lowest responsible bid being submitted by MYS, Inc., in an amount of $31,661. The contractor has agreed to reduce the project scope to fit within the budgeted amount of $25,000.

The costs for this project would be funded through the FY 2017 Capital Improvement Fund account no. 3095- 43780-101-570953 which provides $25,000 for the Historic Sidewalk Repairs project. The lowest bid for this project was for $31,661 which exceeded the $25,000 amount budgeted for this work.
Background
The Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) has been working since 2000 to develop a program to preserve Oak Park's remaining sandstone sidewalks. The sidewalks, mostly installed between the 1890's and 1902, are found in the central part of the Village and comprise many of the sidewalks in the Frank Lloyd Wright/Prairie School of Architecture and Ridgeland/Oak Park Historic Districts. Made of sandstone, the historic sidewalks provide a unique character to the historic districts not found in other Midwest communities, and also represent a considerable value to the village and its property owners.
This will be the second consecutive year for a dedicated program for the historic sidewalk. This program will focus mainly on resetting sandstone sidewalks which present trip-hazards, as well as some relocation of pieces to create more contiguous sections of historic sidewalk.
