Background

The Oak Park Fire Department (OPFD) Foreign Fire Insurance Board is set forth in 65 Illinois Compiled Statutes 5/11-10-1 and 5/11-10-2 to receive and account for revenue from the tax on fire insurance companies for the maintenance, use and benefit of the Fire Department.

Currently the OPFD Foreign Fire Insurance Board consists of three (3) officers representing each of the ranks of the Department.  Under changes to the Illinois statute, the Board can now be comprised of up to seven (7) “trustees” with the only requirement being that they are full-time, sworn members, elected at large by members of the Department.  If there is an insufficient number of candidates to fill all the positions, the number can be reduced, but not to fewer than three (3) trustees.  Upon adoption of this Ordinance, the OPFD will hold annual elections and establish the size of the Board  (3-7) depending upon the number of candidates.
