Background

A vehicle impoundment program  was presented to the Village Board at the November 27, 2017 special meeting.  Based upon the discussion, the applicable ordinance has been drafted for first reading at the December 11, 2017 meeting.   The ordinance creates a new Section 15-10-20 of the Village Code which sets for the program and provides for due process rights for those persons who have had vehicles impounded for the offenses listed in the new section.  An administrative penalty of $550 is set forth in the ordinance for release of an impounded vehicle.  Due to the proposed creation of the new Section 15-10-20, Section 27-4-4 of the Village Code providing for the impoundment of vehicles containing unlawful weapons would be deleted as the impoundment for this offense would be governed by the new Section 15-10-20.
