Background

In the State of Illinois requires elevators to be inspected yearly.  A majority of municipalities outsource the elevator safety program due to the complexity of an elevator.  The last few years Elevator Inspection Services has performed the program while Thompson Elevator has performed previous years prior. On May 3, 2017, the Village issued a Request for Proposals for the Elevator Inspections and Plan Reviews. Three firms responded to the Request. Thompson, although not the low bidder, was the most responsive firm.

Alternatives

The Village Board could direct that staff hire specialized staff to perform this work instead.
