Overview

Overview

On June 11, 2018 staff presented renewable energy options to the Village Board as part of a discussion for the best use of the sustainability fund.  Although no final decisions were made as to which of the options the Village Board would pursue from the list presented by staff, Trustee Tucker, Village Board liaison to the Historic Preservation Commission, requested the particular option of solar panels at Village Hall be referred to the Historical Preservation Commission (HPC) for comments prior to staff returning for a follow-up discussion with the Village Board in September.

Recommendation

The Historic Preservation Commission will return with feedback for the Village Board regarding the option of installing solar panels at Village Hall.

Body

Report

Staff recommended that a Rooftop Solar Array for Village Hall be considered by the Board.  The recommendation is supported by the relatively low cost of the project, and the visibility the project would have for residents and businesses that are considering their own rooftop solar projects.   Additionally, staff recommends further evaluation of:  i) utilizing solar PV film for the Rooftop Solar Array (as opposed to solar PV panels); ii) examining options for utilizing more rooftop square footage for generation; and iii) evaluating the option of installing solar canopies in the Village Hall parking lot.
