The base award for this one year grant is $60,000 with the potential to also receive an additional $10,000 in supplemental funding for planning for reducing the risk of Hepatitis and HIV infections attributed to opioid use and overdose risk behaviors.
Background
The Local Health Department Overdoses Surveillance and Response Project will support the Village of Oak Park Health Department in the development of local response plans for opioid overdose and associated infectious disease morbidity and mortality based on near real-time surveillance. The anticipated award amount is $70,000.
At this time the Health Department believes that this grant presents several benefits and ties well with already existing grants. Local Health Department Overdoses Surveillance and Response Project is used for the development of local response plans for opioid overdose and associated infectious disease morbidity and mortality based on near real-time surveillance. This project is funded through Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Public Health Emergency Response and the main focus will be to support our health department and the community by preparing the Village to respond to recent increase in opioid overdoses and associated infectious diseases based on real time surveillance.
Cook County has been recorded as one of the highest burdened areas for opioid overdose in 2018. As one of the few certified health departments in Cook County, the Village is a real asset not just to our community but to the county level as well. The funds from this grant are to be used to create a response plan with specific public health interventions at the sub-county level within at least one community with a state-certified health department and for the prevention of infectious disease transmission that is tailored to the local community needs and resources which fits in perfectly with our goals.
This new opportunity ties well with our current grants and projects:
• I-NEDSS - Infectious Disease Reporting, Cities Readiness Initiative, and Public Health Emergency Preparedness
• Base awards for this grant will be $60,000 with a possible additional $10,000 for jurisdictions to include planning for reducing the risk of Hepatitis and HIV infections attributed to opioid use and overdose risk behaviors.
• This grant ties well with the goals of the IPLAN (By 2022, establish reporting system for illicit opioid availability within Oak Park and River Forest).
Attached is the Uniform Notice of Funding Opportunity for Village Board review and a memo submitted to Cara Pavlicek dated 03/29/2019.
