Background
The Village of Oak Park is eligible for an annual Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) to be used for a variety of locally-determined programs. Oak Park is an "Entitlement Community." This means that, upon submission of a satisfactory funding package to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), and assuming all federal requirements are met, the Village is entitled to receive a pre-determined amount of funds, based on a set formula.
Every year, the Village must submit an Action Plan to HUD in order to receive CDBG and Emergency Solutions Grant ("ESG") funding. The Action Plan is due to HUD by August 15, 2019. The Action Plan is part of the five-year guiding document called the Consolidated Plan, which was last submitted by the Village in 2015.
For Program Year ("PY") 2019 the Village will receive $1,633,190 in CDBG funding and $143,061 in ESG funding. by August 15, 2019. Two Village staff persons administer the CDBG and ESG programs each program year. The Village of Oak Park relies upon HUD monies to support community based activities and programs.
