Fiscal Impact

The FY 2019 Budget includes $400,000 for this project in the Capital Improvement Fund in the following accounts Capital Improvement Fund, Public Works - Engineering, for Pavement Preservation account no. 3095-43780-101-570977.

Background

This program was previously called Micro-Surfacing, Pavement Patching and Crack-Filling of Various Streets but has been renamed to Pavement Preservation to allow for the most flexibility in using the most appropriate pavement preservation depending on the condition of the street. The program this year consists of microsurfacing, patching, crackfilling, and asphalt rejuvenators. The Village has used microsurfacing as part of the pavement maintenance program for many years. Microsurfacing is a surface treatment that extends the service life of pavements from 5 to 7 years.  Approximately 2.8 miles of streets are planned to be micropaved under this contract. Additionally, crack filling will be done on a number of streets, including some stretches along streets that have been resurfaced between 3 and 5 years ago.

This project also includes patching of local streets throughout the Village to address areas of deterioration and improve the rideability of streets.  A number of locations for patching are on streets where micro-surfacing is also planned to repair distressed areas prior to applying the microsurfacing.

Asphalt rejuvenator is a newer technology which aims to restore and preserve the durability of asphalt. 0.8 miles of street are planned to have an asphalt rejuvenator applied with this contract.

The contractor, A.C. Pavement Striping Co., has completed previous microsurfacing projects in the Village of Oak Park and has done an excellent job.
