Regular Village Board meetings are typically held at 7:00 p.m., the first three Tuesdays of each month in Council Chambers of Village Hall (room 201), 123 Madison St. When a Regular Meeting falls on a holiday, the meeting typically is held the following night. Overview
Overview
The Madison Street resurfacing and reconstruction project is nearing completion. As part of this project, the speed limit on Madison is proposed to be reduced from thirty (30) miles per hour to twenty five (25) miles per hour. The Ordinance revised Village Code 15-1-10 to establish this new lower speed limit on Madison Street.

Fiscal Impact
There is no fiscal impact to lowering the speed limit on Madison. Signage for the reduced speed limits is included in the construction contract for the Madison Street project.

Background
Construction of the Madison Street resurfacing and reconstruction project is nearing completion this fall. This construction project was approved by the Village Board on November 26, 2018. This project in which five lanes (including a landscaped median strip and turn lanes) are reduced to three lanes (including a center turn lane) with bike lanes, as well as streetscape amenities. The streetscape amenities include new pedestrian street lighting, furniture, sidewalks and crosswalk enhancementsis the conversion to a three-lane segment consisting of two through-lanes and a center two-way left-turn lane. This project will increase safety for pedestrians, bicyclists, and drivers.

Alternatives
The alternative to this recommendation could be to delay action to gain additional information.
