Overview
The Fire Department is requesting to purchase two power load systems which automates the process of lifting patients into the ambulance and their compatable cots for our ambulances from Stryker Medical. We have had one Stryker power load system in use for almost a year, and this purchase will equip all of our three, front-line ambulances with this injury preventive device. The cost for this equipment and installation is 100% funded by a federal grant.

Fiscal Impact
A budget amendment was submitted to Finance for FY 2019 capital equipment replacement fund for the purchase of this equipment which will be covered by grant money. The Fire Department received a grant in the amount of $268,160 for this purchase and installation as well as breathing apparatus equipment. The Foreign Fire Fund is also contributing $1,324.

Background
The Fire Department, with Board approval, applied in FY 2018 for a federal grant from the Assistance To Firefighter Program to purchase new self contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) equipment, and two power load systems for our two front-line ambulances. The Fire Department has been awarded that grant in the amount of $268,160, and has one year to make purchases. The breathing apparatus equipment will go out to RFP later this year.

The power load system significantly reduces the potential for back injuries as it lifts and loads the patients cot into the ambulance. We have one Stryker Medical power load system already installed on one of our ambulances. To maintain...
