Background
In 2012 and 2013 the Water & Sewer Division of the Public Works Department contracted with M.E. Simpson Co., Inc. to exercise the approximately 1200 water valves in the drinking water distribution system. The valve exercising program identified a number of valves that were broken. Replacing the broken valves is a necessary improvement in order to maintain adequate fire flows and to ensure that water mains can be shut off in emergency situations or for scheduled maintenance. Valves proposed on this project are larger than those replaced by village forces, requiring larger equipment, or at locations requiring more coordination for traffic control and impacts.
