Background

Public Health Director Mike Charley discussed the upcoming observance of Halloween as it relates to COVID-19 at the Village Board special meeting on September 29, 2020.

Formal guidance from the Public Health Department will be forthcoming in mid-October.  Unless otherwise indicated by COVID-19 case data leading up to the holiday, the Village’s public health guidance will be similar to the State’s guidance as issued by the Illinois Department of Public Health on September 30, 2020.  Oak Park also plans to mirror many other communities in the region by offering signage to residents closer to the holiday for posting on doors which note whether a home is participating in the traditional trick-or-treat activities on Halloween, or denotes that a home is not participating this year during the pandemic and seeks respect for that choice in line with the comments today from IDPH Director Dr. Ngozi Ezike who stated in part “We are still in a pandemic, and unfortunately, this year, that means the safest way to celebrate is to stay home and plan virtual gatherings.”
