Regular Village Board meetings are typically held at 7:00 p.m., the first three Tuesdays of each month in Council Chambers of Village Hall (room 201), 123 Madison St. When a Regular Meeting falls on a holiday, the meeting typically is held the following night. The Village Board also meets in special sessions from time to time. However, dates and times of Special Meetings can vary and may change.

Article 48 (“Pawnbrokers”) of Chapter 8 (“Business Licensing”) of the Oak Park Village Code requires that the annual renewal of the business license for pawnbrokers be given at the direction of and approval of the Village President and Board of Trustees, upon authorization of the Police Chief.

Fiscal Impact

The annual business license fee for a pawnbroker is $2,000.

 

Background

Pursuant to Article 48, the Police Chief has been advised that review and investigations of the applications for pawnbrokers licenses have been completed and authorizes issuance of licenses to the following three applicants:  Irving Park Jewelry & Coins, Inc. (dba Hollywood Pawners) at 6147 W. North Avenue; Cash America Inc, of Illinois (dba Cash America Pawn #2397) at 6303 W. North Avenue; and the Oak Park Pawn Shop, LLC (dba A-1 American Jewelers & Loan) at 6151 W. North Avenue.

 

A copy of the Police Chief’s annual Pawn Shop report Summary is attached.

The Village Board could delay approval pending additional information requested.

 

Previous Board Action

The pawnbroker licenses are considered annually. The last approval by the Mayor and the Village Board occurred on December 7, 2020.
