Fiscal Impact
The IDHS TEP grant would fund 100% of the costs associated with the Department’s Tobacco Enforcement Program.
Background
On March 10, 2022, IDHS announced that they will be accepting applications for the FY22 TEP grant. Awarded grant projects will receive 100% funding for costs associated with the program and there is no local match. Covered costs include personnel, funds needed for any tobacco purchases made during compliance checks, payment to underage civilians employed through the TEP program, and meal costs for civilians during the compliance checks.
The grant requires the Department to distribute education materials to all tobacco vendors within the Village, and then conduct 3 separate compliance checks of each vendor. Documentation is sent to the IDHS summarizing each round of compliance checks and the results.
Alternatives
The Village could decline the grant opportunity.
