A Resolution Approving a Funding Grant and Operating Agreement
between the West Side Service Connector, d/b/a the Oak Park Family
Transitional Shelter and the Village of Oak Park to Fund and Operate a
Shelter Space for Asylum Seekers Residing in the Village and Authorizing its
Execution
Overview:
The Village of Oak Park received $1,944,000 in grant funds from the
Metropolitan Mayor’s Caucus to provide services to asylum seekers in the
community. Of those funds, $1,244,000 has been designated to operate a
temporary shelter for asylum seekers. The West Side Service Connector, d/b/a
the Oak Park Family Transitional Shelter will serve as the subgrant recipient
and operate the temporary shelter from February 26, 2024 through June 30,
2024.
A Resolution Approving an Amendment to the Grant Application with the
Metropolitan Mayors Caucus for Supporting Municipalities for Asylum Seeker
Services (SMASS) in Partnership with the Illinois Department of Human Services
from $1,944,000 to $2,070,750

Staff requests the Village Board adopt a Resolution approving an amendment to a
grant application with the Metropolitan Mayors Caucus for Supporting
Municipalities for Asylum Seeker Services (SMASS) in partnership with the Illinois
Department of Human Services to request

A Resolution Approving a Lease Agreement between the Catholic Bishop of
Chicago and the Village of Oak Park to Provide Shelter Space for Asylum
Seekers Residing in the Village and Authorizing its Execution Subject to the
Village Entering into an Operating Agreement for the Shelter Space
Overview:
This item was postponed at this meeting by motion of the Board at the
February 13, 2024 meeting. The Lease Agreement between the Catholic
Bishop of Chicago (“CBC”) and the Village would provide shelter space at the
former St. Edmund’s Parish School located at 200 S. Oak Park Avenue for the
asylum seekers currently residing in the Village after the Village’s temporary
shelter program ends on February 29, 2024.
