Background
The project schedule has been delayed due to the discovery of asbestos-containing materials inside the south fire station in various locations included in the renovation scope of work. Village and contractor staff were compelled to carry out their due diligence in coordinating the requisite efforts in the asbestos removal and abatement process. These circumstances delayed the project schedule by approximately fourteen weeks. The asbestos has been successfully removed and remediated without incident and the project is now fully underway.

Additionally, very long and inevitable lead times on certain materials (doors, metal frames, and metal lockers) have been conveyed by suppliers. The general contractor and design team have looked into available alternatives for materials, however, no quicker suitable options were identified.

Staff discussed the requested extension with Fire Dept. staff and all parties agree that the extension is warranted and reasonable and concur with the new proposed completion date of March 31, 2023. The revised completion date will not affect the operations of the F...
