Overview
Overview
The Forestry Division of the Department of Public Works is responsible for maintenance of parkway trees and trees on Village-owned property throughout the Village. In 2018, staff anticipates that approximately 650 trees will be removed due to Emerald Ash Borer, Dutch Elm Disease, storm damage, or otherwise hazardous situations. Each tree stump must also be removed, which is handled by a separate contractor.

Body
Staff Recommendation
Approve the Resolution.

Fiscal Impact
The proposed FY 2018 budget recommends a total of $180,000.00 for Parkway Tree Stump Removal in the General Fund, External Support account no. 1001-43800-741-530667.

Background
Tree Stump Grinding is a necessary part of the tree removal process. At one time in the past tree stump grinding was included as an incidental service to the tree removal price. Staff has found that the Village is better served by contracting out for these services on their own. Stumps are removed in a more timely and efficient manner at a lower cost.

Bids were collected in September. A&B Landscaping and Tree Service with a bid of $159,900.00 came in as the low bid. Staff requests increasing the contract amount to cover possible additional charges for potential removals associated with a storm event and other restoration costs.
